Rebecca Yue was born and grew up in Hong Kong. She later went to McGill University in Canada for her university education and was awarded the degree of B.Sc. in Mathematics and Physics.

Since very young, Rebecca was drawn to Chinese art. She started to learn brush painting just before the age of eleven and followed strict disciplines from three masters, one of them specialised in landscape and the other two in flowers and birds painting. When she was fourteen, She also began training in the art of Chinese calligraphy in the traditional way. Her tutor was a scholar specialized in Chinese literature and calligraphy in the Hsing Shu style. After she married, she continued to practise calligraphy under her late father-in-law. Her father-in-law was an accomplished poet and calligrapher in the Kai Shu style. During all the time, Rebecca also learned and practised other Chinese art forms such as papercutting, knotting and the Chinese silk painting.

Since moving to England in 1971, she has devoted all her time to perfecting her Chinese art forms. Her first public solo exhibition was about papercuts at the Bath University Library Gallery. From then on, she has exhibited and taught extensively in the west of England. In 1993, Rebecca set up her own studio in Bath. From there she gives regular classes and workshops on many different Chinese art forms. Besides teaching in her studio, Rebecca also works closely with local museums, art groups and galleries.

All the Chinese art forms Rebecca practises are of ancient origin. She is deeply attracted to the unique characteristics of simplicity, grace and elegance in Chinese art and aims to preserve such qualities in her own work. Rebecca also likes to blend Chinese traditions into her work whenever traditions will enhance. However she is not restricted by traditions and ancient formats, or techniques and breaks free whenever she sees fit.

In fifty-four years of practising Chinese art, Rebecca has constantly worked hard with bold experimentation to look for new ways of expression. She has since pioneered many exciting new developments, bringing fresh inspiration to Chinese art.

Rebecca is passionate about passing on to others what she enjoys. Through the many years of teaching, she has developed very systematic approaches to learning Chinese art. Many learned from her find her methods very enlightening. Now she passed on these methods in her books, “Chinese Calligraphy Made Easy”, “Chinese Flower Painting Made Easy” , "Chinese Landscapes Made Easy" and "Chinese Animal Painting Made easy". She is also the author of “Chinese Lucky Animals”, an instruction book to teach beginners how to paint with Chinese brushes.
