Chinese calligraphy is a highly developed art. A proper piece of artwork aims at dynamic flow of brushstrokes, right balance of each character, impressive composition of the final work and beautiful execution with skill, confidence and strength. There are five dominating styles in Chinese calligraphy, Chuan (Zhuan) Shu, Li Shu, Kai Shu, Hsing (Xing) Shu and Tsao (Cao) Shu. “Shu” means writing.

Besides making artworks of calligraphy, I also create many with Chinese poetry. For the time being, I concentrate in poems of the Tang and Song Dynasties. The most popular style of poems in Tang Dynasty are called Shi and the most popular ones in Song Dynasty are called Ci.

My favourite style of calligraphy is Hsing Shu. I am especially attracted to the styles of Hsing Shu by the great masters Wang Xi Zhi and Mi Fei. However through the years I have developed my own style. For poems with deep emotions I like to write with my style of Hsing Shu and Tsao Shu. Sometimes I mix Hsing Shu and Tsao Shu in a single piece of writing to create the maximum effect of flowing brushstrokes. In writing Chinese sayings like the idioms, I like to use Chuan Shu and Li Shu to express the serious side of the messages.
