Chinese uses knots to create buttons to enhance garments. Each button has two parts. One part has a loop end and the other has a Button knot end. If the button is for a lady's garment, the part with the loop end will be sewn on the right half of the garment while it is sewn on the left half of a man's garment. The loop is for looping over the Button knot of the other part to close a garment.

Every knot has a meaning. The following are some of them.
