A picture calligraphy of the Chinese word "dragon"

Many believe that Chinese words evolved from pictures. Picture Calligraphy is an art dedicated to such evolution. A word is written in the usual form but some of the brushstrokes are replaced by painting to create an artwork to convey the meaning of the word. 2011 came and went pretty fast. It was again a year of mixed fortunes for me. My book CHINESE CALLIGRAPHY MADE EASY now has a Russian version. It is exciting news. I spent the last year updating all the correspondence courses in calligraphy and added Kai Shu to the list. I also introduced new courses of painting flowers, birds and vegetables. So far feedbacks from participants are positive. In the coming year, I shall finish one for fruit painting and create a new one for papercutting. Many folks are interested in learning papercutting. So this year, I am going to add papercutting to the list of topics in my Easter School and Summer School.

Healthwise, I have not been so lucky. There were a few false alarms. I have been in and out of hospital for medical teats. Hopefully I can put this behind me and look forward to the year of the dragon. During my difficult time, I was thankful for the support of my pupils. A thought came to me. There must be many folks going through a difficult time. So I made a card for each of my pupils to send to one friend who was in need of some support. The card has a papercut of the Chinese word "blessing" on it. Now I am inviting you to join this project. You can find instructions of making this card in the project session. Let us make the year of dragon a year of caring and a year of blessings. May your card brings hope, love and blessing to your friend.

I was informed that my book CHINESE CALLIGRAPHY MADE EASY is now out of stock in UK. You can still get one from US. If you have not have a copy yet, you can still get one from me. I have about 10 copies. I have uploaded many new calligraphy artworks in my website if you have not notice yet. I have also upload many small papercutting, knotting and bead jewellery artworks not long ago.

I noticed that my book LOVE THOSE BEADS is very in demand. Actually anyone who wants a copy can contact me. I still have a few new copies of the out of print edition. However you have to be quick because I don't think they will stay with me for very long. I only charge £10 each.
